History of Caludon Castle

Caludon Castle is one of only 20 Ancient Scheduled Monuments in Coventry and has in the past suffered from neglect, placing it on the 'At Risk' list from English Heritage.

As well as securing the long term future of Caludon Castle, the Friends group is also committed to making the historic importance of the site more widely known.

From signage boards in the park to the definitive historical book commissioned by John Clarke and researched by historian Stephen Johnson, we will be unearthing more fascinating facts about the previously undocumented history of Caludon Castle and its colourful inhabitants.

In August 2003 Warwickshire County Council Museum Field Services Archaeology Projects Group undertook an Investigation of Caludon Castle. You can download the Caludon Archaeology Report here. (©Warkwickshire County Council)

In 2008 Coventry City Council and John Clarke OBE jointly commissioned a geophysical survey undertaken by Northamptonshire Archaeology to reveal more about the structure of the castle and the site. Download the Caludon Geophysical Survey here. John Clarke OBE will be shortly publishing the definitive history of Caludon Castle, The Lords of Caludon - the result of a 5 year research project.
